The Reason Code Assignment page in Mantsu's Downtimes Manager **links a reason tree (or a selected subset of it) to a specific Equipment or Equipment Class**. This assignment determines exactly which reason codes are available to an operator when they register a downtime event on a given machine.

## Flexibility

Engineers have full flexibility:

- Assign the **entire tree**, or
- **Cherry-pick** specific branches and leaf nodes to attach

This prevents operators from seeing irrelevant codes and keeps classification fast and accurate.

Only equipment where Downtimes is enabled will be available for reason tree assignment.

## Short Stops

**Short stops** are stops that last only a few seconds to a minute, they happen too frequently for an operator to log separately. Left unconfigured, they inflate the number of uncategorized downtime events and distort OEE Availability figures.

The **Short Stop configuration** solves this by defining:

- A **duration threshold**
- A **catch-all reason code**

Any downtime event that is equal to or shorter than the threshold is automatically classified under the designated Short Stop reason code **without any operator interaction**.

**Example**

- **Short Stop Duration:** 10 seconds
- **Short Stop Reason:** Maintenance and Cleaning

➡ All downtimes of 10 seconds or less will automatically be classified as **Maintenance and Cleaning**.
